The impact of frequency reduction on diesel generator sets was already known

    2024-12-10 16:14:50

We know that a low frequency of diesel generator sets can have extremely adverse effects on electrical equipment, so in order to maintain the rated frequency of the generator set, we need to make necessary frequency adjustments. So, what impact will low frequency have on diesel generator sets? Let me listen to the editor's guide for you.

One of the impacts: Low frequency operation will increase the pressure borne by the turbine blades, causing blade resonance, shortening blade life, and even causing blade fracture.

Impact 2: When operating at low frequencies, the ventilation volume of the generator will decrease. In order to maintain normal voltage, it is required to increase the excitation current to increase the temperature rise of the top and rotor of the diesel generator set. In order not to exceed the temperature rise limit, the power generation of the diesel generator set has to be reduced.

Impact 3: During low-frequency operation, due to the increase in magnetic flux density, the iron core loss and excitation current of the transformer will increase. In order to not exceed the temperature rise limit, the transformer load must be reduced.

Impact 4: When the frequency decreases, the reactive power load in the system will increase, leading to a decrease in the system voltage level.

The speed of the electric motor is closely related to the system frequency. If the frequency of the diesel generator set is too low, it will affect the normal operation of the equipment, reduce product quality, and even cause the entire system to collapse. Therefore, in order to avoid the impact of a decrease in system frequency, we need to set it according to the rated frequency of the system and adjust it in a timely manner when there is a frequency change, which has an important impact on the stable operation of the generator set.
