Unstable operation factors can cause damage to diesel generator sets

The normal operation of diesel generator sets requires operators to strictly follow the operating specifications. Orderly operation is an important factor in ensuring smooth work. If there are some unstable factors in operation, it will accelerate the depreciation and damage of the unit. So here are five common chaotic operations listed for everyone, hoping that after becoming familiar with them, you can eliminate such phenomena in your work.

(1) Running with load without warming up after cold start:

When the diesel engine is started with a cold engine, due to the high viscosity and poor fluidity of the engine oil, the oil pump is not supplying enough oil, and the friction surface of the machine is poorly lubricated due to lack of oil, resulting in rapid wear and even cylinder pulling, tile burning and other faults. Therefore, after the diesel engine is cooled down and started, it should be run at idle speed to heat up, and then run with load when the oil temperature reaches 40 ℃ or above; When starting the machine, it should shift to low gear and drive sequentially in each gear for a certain distance until the oil temperature is normal and the fuel supply is sufficient, then it can switch to normal driving.

(2) Emergency shutdown with load or immediate shutdown after sudden unloading of load:

After the diesel engine is turned off, the circulation of cooling system water stops, the heat dissipation capacity decreases sharply, and the heated parts lose cooling, which can easily cause overheating of components such as cylinder head, cylinder liner, cylinder block, etc., resulting in cracks, or causing the piston to expand excessively and get stuck in the cylinder liner. On the other hand, if the diesel engine is stopped without idle cooling, the oil content on the friction surface will be insufficient. When the diesel engine is restarted, poor lubrication will exacerbate wear. Therefore, before turning off the diesel engine, the load should be removed and the speed should be gradually reduced, running at no load for a few minutes.

(3) After a cold start of a diesel engine, suddenly press the accelerator pedal:

If the accelerator is suddenly pressed, the speed of the diesel engine will increase sharply, causing some friction surfaces on the engine to wear severely due to dry friction. In addition, when the accelerator is pressed, the force received by the piston, connecting rod, and crankshaft changes greatly, causing severe impact and easily damaging the components.

(4) Before turning off the engine, press the accelerator hard:

If a high-speed diesel engine suddenly stops running, its huge inertia will cause damage to the components of the crank connecting rod mechanism and valve train, shortening its service life. At the same time, slamming the accelerator pedal causes fuel to flow down the cylinder wall due to excessive entry into the cylinder before complete combustion, diluting the lubricating oil. In addition, it will significantly increase the accumulation of carbon in the piston, valve, and combustion chamber, causing fuel injector blockage and piston jamming.

(5) Sudden addition of cooling water when diesel engine temperature is too high:

If cooling water is suddenly added to a diesel engine when it is short of water or overheated, it will cause cracks in the cylinder head, cylinder liner, cylinder block, etc. due to drastic changes in temperature. Therefore, when the temperature of the diesel engine is too high, the load should be removed first, the speed should be slightly increased, and after the water temperature drops, the diesel engine should be turned off. Then, the water radiator cover should be loosened to eliminate water vapor. If necessary, slowly inject cooling water into the water radiator.

The main reason for the above situations is due to improper management of the enterprise, which is also closely related to the quality of the operators. Therefore, in addition to developing a systematic operating standard to provide employees with a rational and evidence-based approach, the enterprise also needs to strengthen their technical level and carry out their work in an orderly manner.
